Most agree that you don’t need an excuse to eat fresh-baked pie. But when one comes along, Whatcom Land Title Co. is going to take advantage of it.

With Pi Day coming up on Monday, March 14, Whatcom Land Title Co. is delivering approximately 150 handcrafted, made-from-scratch mini-pies to the intensive care unit and Emergency Department at PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center in Bellingham

“Our ICU and Emergency Department doctors, nurses and support staff have provided amazing care for our community, especially for the past two years while facing higher patient counts from the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Colleen Baldwin, owner of Whatcom Land Title. “Pi Day seems like the perfect time to give them a tasty gesture of our appreciation for them.”

Pi, a Greek letter, is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter — which is approximately 3.14159. That rounds off to 3.14, which is why it’s connected to March 14.

To help reduce the risk of cross-contamination in shared food, WLT is donating individual mini-pies from Barb’s Pies and Pastries in Ferndale, Baldwin said.
